For those who purchased a computer with Windows 8 installed, Microsoft made its new operating system, Windows 10, available for free for all of us who have been living with two competing operating systems occupying the same space. Today is Windows 10 Day, and when it is fully downloaded, I will be getting my passport stamped in Win10World.
It’s the best of modern human culture. 😉
Reviews are positive. I have no connection with Gizmodo, an online technology magazine, other than the fact that it published a profile of a good friend of mine, a professional swordmaker, recently, but that publication has been reviewing Windows 10 issues this week.
This is where you will find me today. Mwah.
(Of course, I reserve the right to emerge from Win10World to comment on whatever today’s example of the worst of modern human culture is probably going to be—racism, general Trumpism, negativity. The Gad About Town will continue his one-man/two-or-three-reader [Hi there, you and you and … you, too!] crusade.)

I’m at 82%. Maybe I can keep the momentum going.

I am still eating my apple and enjoying it very much. My windows remain closed (except for the 7th window, I like that one and as long as the glass isn’t broken I will continue to use it).

Someone else wrote me complimenting Windows 7. I never used it. If I could afford apples, I may be having a different day.

I’ll wait until you’ve tested it out. I’m running W7 and don’t want W8 – so a warts and all review would be good 🙂

Okay. I will see what I run into.
One thing, and this may have more to do with it being 95 degrees in here or it may be Win 10, but my touchpad has suddenly developed a mind of its own since Win 10 was installed. My cursor jumps everywhere while I am typing, as if it is sensitive to even my breath across its surface. I look up and I see my latest words in the middle of a paragraph way up above. This outrage can not stand! (That last exclamation is due to it being 95 degrees in here.)

Windows 7 does that on Word for me – also constant scrolling so I can’t continue typing. 95 degrees? I’ve got a hot water bottle – July has been cooler in Britain 😦 but apparently August will see a heatwave 🙂

I’m still waiting for Microsoft to give me the green light to go ahead and install the much awaited Windows 10 (I haven’t received my update alert yet). Maybe tomorrow, unless I go ahead and install in manually. This has got to be the most excited anyone’s ever been about a new Windows release in years.

If you registered when Microsoft planted that old Windows logo in your bottom-right task tray, click on that today and it’ll whisk you away. It took about an hour, and I did not get to see that “Something Happened” error screen, thank whatever.

I just started the installation progress. I had to wait until 6:00 pm to get my download link in my email.

Oh, darn. I just got the “Something happened” message.

Yikes! I did get this message several times (I am paraphrasing and I regret not capturing a screenshot): “This is taking longer than expected.” That was polite.

Microsoft must not like me. I see nothing. Maybe I didn’t sign up for the free Windows 10. Quite honestly, I’m lucky to remember my password…

Keep us updated! I bit the bullet and went all Apple at home last year ( still paying for it, but I won’t do anything like that again for awhile) but I have 4 office computers that need the update…. I’d love to hear a few good stories before I potentially shutdown my office!

Thanks for this post Mark. I didn’t know about the free Windows upgrade until you wrote about it so appreciate you posting about it. Now off to Gizmodo, CNET, etc to explore the reviews … Marianne
